Kanakuk Parties This Summer

Okay girls, in a couple of weeks we will be meeting with all the leadership team to get ideas on what to do for our four parties. I would love your input. Give me some ideas by emailing me at reno@kanakuk.com So....here they are

Two Week Terms 1,3, and 5 AND first half of the 25 day term is

Galactica Spectacula
This is all about the future, space, robots. Think what the iniverse/world could look like in 100 years.

World Fair
In the early 1900s many countries would get together and have a World Fair. There, they would show off all the things they had invented, all the things they do as a culture, and all the things that they eat. What would a World Fair look like today in 2010? Its all about experienceing different parts of the world and what they do, eat, and have in their countries

Two Week Terms 2,4,and 6 AND second half of the 25 day term

K-Extravaganza
Everything has to do with the letter K. Games, food, activities (and remember in the Kanakuk world...all things that start with a c can really start with a K if you want them to!)

Color Catastrophe
Everything has to do with colors. Maybe the color is taken from Kanakuk and we have to fight to get it back. Think of anything games or activities having to do with colors. What could we do that is colorful...what would you want to do.

Okay, email me at reno@kanakuk.com with your ideas or you can comment on this post!

Movie Review: Alice in Wonderland

I went to See Alice in Wonderland this past weekend and I thought I would write about it. It has been rated PG. First of all, I knew that this movie would be kid of quirky and maybe a little bit dark because Tim Burton is the director. I love Disney so Lee (my husband) and I decided to try it.

What I loved:
1.) It was more quirky than anything and since Alice in Wonderland is naturally quirky I appreciated that

2.) I loved that it was her second time back into Wonderland and how it showed her going there in the first place.

3.) I loved the real life characters of Alice's Friends.

4.) I liked the Mad Hatter's Character. Yes, a little weird...but he is Mad right?

5.) I loved how Alice showed that she was kind to others even if they hurt her to begin with (if you haven't seen it...you will see what I mean)

What I didn't Love:
1.) Somethings were a little down right scary. Like the Jabbowoki, the animal in the beginning. I wouldn't take little ones to this. It could be scary at times, but I think 12 and up it would be fine (maybe 11 year old that don't scare easily)

2.) I didn't love how they played up the Red Queens "Off with Their Head" statements. That was a little gory (and could be scary)

3.) There wasn't any american "cuss" words but a few English (Brittish) phrases that I think are kind of negative. I do believe they say "God" a couple of times...not my fave.

For the most part, I really enjoyed the movie, but I would caution you parents...don't take your little ones...it is too scary.

By the way, if you ever want to check out what a movie is like before you go see it check PLUGGED IN by focus on the family. Its really a great tool to pick great movies.

New Slide at K-1!!! You Can Name It!

Guess What! We have a new pool slide at K-1. Yep, this is the picture (obviously its not at the pool in the picture but they just installed it!) No, its not a new slide by the big stairs but this slide has replaced the one at the pool. Remember the slide that looked like a really big playground slide....well its gone and this one is up!

Well, you can enter a contest to name the slide. Just think, you could leave your legacy on K-1 even when you leave. Think of all the K-1 Attractions that have names - Janeland, The PartyBarn, Geronimo (the white Slides) Even every cabin has a name. We need a name for the new slide! So, here is what you do. Today, your parents are getting an email with a link to the contest website. You have to enter the contest through that link. If you parents didn't get the email check the Junk mail through your parents email (sometimes big emails go there) Click on the link in your parents email and enter what you think the slide should be named. We will pick 4 finalists and then we will pick the winner. All four finalists will get a prize! Here are the prizes:

1. GRAND PRIZE: Star in our 2010 Kanakuk Movie. You’ll take your cabin to a Pizza Pool Party at the K-1 Pool. While you’re there, you’ll be filmed going down the new slide to be featured in the 2010 Kamp Movie.
2. 1st RUNNER UP: Kauai Water Park. During a rest period, you and your cabin will go to K-Kauai to experience the best water park Kanakuk has to offer!
3. 2nd RUNNER UP: Fast Pass. For one day, you have a fast pass to the front of the line at every attraction at K-1. Waterslides, ziplines, you name it, you won’t have to wait in line that day!
4. 3rd RUNNER UP: H2O Balloons and Slip-n-Slide. During a rest period, you and your cabin will have a H2O Balloon fight while enjoying the fun of the Slip-n-Slide.

Have fun and I can't wait to see your entries!!!

10 Fun Things to Do with Friends at a Sleepover

Okay, so it is getting close to the weekend and I remember when I was in elementary/ junior high my favorite thing was to ask my friends over to spend the night. Some of my best memories with friends are at a sleep over. So here are some fun ideas to do with your friends.

1.) The Walmart Game (this would require a ride and supervision from your parents and a little bit of money.)

What you do: go to walmart and split into two groups in the parking lot. Each group gets 5 dollars. They can't have any other way to pay (no purses no extra change in your pocket, just 5 dollars) You walk into the store at the same time and say hello to the greeter at the door (walmart always has one) Look at her name tag and whatever her name is you have to go find an item in walmart that starts with everyletter in her name and buy it....and only spend 5 dollars. The team to do that first, get through the check out counter have all your items and have a reciept that proves that you have only spent five dollars or less....wins and gets to call the other team to front via the intercom. Remember...no running...there are other walmart customers out there. I have done it before and won! The greeters name was Darylene. Here is the break down of what I did

D - Dentyne Gum (25 cents) A - apple (80 cnets) r -ring out of the 25 cent gumball machine y- a peice of yellow felt (20 cents) L-lace (had the fabric lady clip a 10 cent peice from 1.00 per yard fabric. e- egg (cadbury kind) 50cent n-napkin (free at the subway in walmart) e -eclipse candy bar (1.00) Total: $3.10

#2 Watch a Movie here are some of my faves
- Highschool Musical 1,2,3
- Newsies (love this one!)
- Hannah Montanah Movie (cute)
- Annie (the old school version)
- Enchanted

#3 Make a Music Video - Get a video camera, some music, dress up and lypsync away.

#4 Make your own pizza (with mom's help) and bake Cookies

#5 Cover your book, binder, or bible with modge podge magazine/newpaper clippings (fun words and pictures)

#6 Dress up, have a photo shoot (maybe mom or dad could help) and make picture frames for the pics!

#7 Have a Dance Party - Its just your friends so have fun and make up some new moves!

#8 HAve a water balloon fight in your back yard (pick up the pieces when you are done)

#9 If you have a safe neighborhood and trust/know your neighbors you could have a scavenget hunt (have your parents make a list of fun things that you could find)

10.) Make Icecream Sundays!

American Idol Thoughts

Well, I have been following American Idol as probably most of you have. And I will be honest...its not my favorite season. Usually, there is someone that stands out to me from the very beginning that I get really excited about. I watched the very first one and hands down wanted Kelly Clarkson to win. I rooted for Carrie Underwood from her first audition because she was a great singer from the great state of Oklahoma...where I am from! I was all about Jordan Sparks because she was a Kanakuk kamper and I just like Kris Allen. Last year I threw a pillow when Danny Gokey got kicked off. I get into idol usually but this year, I just don't have that person that I am really excited about...that person I can't wait to hear every week. But nonetheless...I am still addicted so here are my faves so far.

Andrew Garcia: He is the one I am most excited to hear because I think he has the most unique voice, but I have been super disappointed in his song choices. I think he is really good. Come on Andrew...pick better songs!!!

Lee Dweeze: I think he has the best shot to win this thing on the guys side. He is talented. I like him and hope he does well, but I am not behind him like I was Jordan, Carrie, Kelly or Kris Allen. I am still a fan.

Crystal Bowersox: She has the best voice of the girls. She is great. I like her too. Although not as much as I have liked other idols.

Lilly Scott: I dont love, love her voice. Probably wont buy her album, I just think she is confident and cool.

LAst but not least...My favorite in the entire competition:

Big Mike: I think Lee will win but I probably want Mike to win the most. Great story, great voice, and he seems like a nice guy.

Now, know that I don't really watch entertainment news or read magazines. I know nothing about any of these people's standards, values or what they stand for. I am just basing my faves strictly on their performances and what they tell us on the show.

Well, gotta get home...AMerican Idol is on tonight.

Here it is! The Kanakuk Theme for summer 2010! I really can't wait to hear the theme song for this one! Its going to be Awesome. The verse that goes with the theme is 1 Thessalonians 4:1

"Finally then, brethren, we request and ehort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you recieved from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more." 1 Thessalonians 4:1

I would love to hear about what you are excited the most for this summer at Kanakuk. Click on the word "comments" below and let me know what you are most excited about for this summer at Kanakuk.

My favorite thing to do when Bored

Okay, Lee (my husband) and I bought an mac desktop this year and really one of my favorite things to do is mess with the photo booth. Seriously....I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. First of all, I need to put a normal pic up so you know/ remember what Lee and I look like for real...

Here is the first photo from photo book! Look at My head!

Here is a funny picture of Lee: (some of you remember him. He is in charge of trips at Kanakuk

I think this is my favorite one. The last picture you can see me laughing pretty hard. i am not even in this picture because I am on the floor laughing so hard. (My husband doesn,t even know I put this on here!)

Okay, then there is piper the dog. Whenever she gets a bath...she somehow knows that its her time to get a bath. She HATES baths! Even though we turn that water on every day and its not for her...she always knows when its her turn. Where does she go? Well, she tries to hide in my closet. I took a picture the last time she did it.

Here is the close up.

I think that I win the award for the most random blog today but if I made you laugh....then I have done my job.

This is Amazing way to learn God's Word!

My friend Sarah (who works at K-Kountry) showed me this today and I wanted to share it with you! It is an Amped up version of how we put God's word to cheers or songs at Kanakuk. We probably need to hire these people to teach bible class at Kanakuk! This is a church in the Chelsea District of New York City. IT is Called Trinity Grace Church. I guess they have artists (who go to the church) perform. These two people are rapping God's word. The verse that they are rapping about is Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

What this verse is saying that the God's word (the bible) is ALIVE! It works in our heart to make us like Christ, to protect us from sin, to help us live, give us strength to be more than conquerers in hard tims, and the boldness to share our faith with others! Enjoy!

Kanakuk Style Great Music!

Hey girls! We play alot of fun music at Kanakuk and I know that you are always looking for great Christian music to listen to at home. I am blogging about some of my new favorites this year! I have even included links to buy the CDs. Or you can just go to good ole itunes and get them too!

The First one is MAKE WAR by Tedashi and Flame (Tedashi sings the Kanakuk Party Song "Off Da Hook" and Flame did our Devo Rap Last year. You can get it at itunes or ReachRecords

The second is one by Lecrea (our favorite theme song rapper) Its called Live Free You can also get it at itunes or ReachRecords.

The Third is another Lecrae song with Flame and John Reilly: Joyful Noise you can get it at ReachRecords

The Next is Ben Rector. He is not a "Christian Artist" (meaning you wont find him in the Christian music sections but He is a strong Christian who is an artist. He worked at kamp (K-West) for years and comes to play at kamp all the time. His wife was a K-1 counselor! He and his wife are standing strong for Jesus in the music industry (which I am sure is not easy) and I love his music! He could be the next up and coming artist! You can get his music at itunes! This sone is called Loving You from his new Album Into the Morning.

Okay, I will blog again with some more of my favorites.
