Kanakuk Fitness Orientation

We did a little Fitness Orientation with our staff. Here is how it went! Stay tuned...tomorrow I will show you what we learned about Kanakuk History and the Legacy that our staff can leave behind in Christ! (We also just got done with our "open Mic Night" Coffee House. Plus.....we just tried out the Color Catastrophe Party we have planned for you. All I can say is bring an outfit that you don't care about. You might get a little colorful...our staff sure did! I cah't wait for kamp. There is still so much more to do but everyone is ready for the kids.

A little Kanakuk History and then some....

Callie Dolloff, on of our K-1 Assistant Directors spoke to staff about Kanakuk History. She also spoke to our staff about the promises we, Kanakuk, make to families. She did a great job and thought you parents would want to hear what we are teaching our staff. Kids...it could be fun to listen to the Kanakuk History

Another Day at Staff Training Week

Well, Yesterday we all went out to K-2. I was excited to get you some footage of our world record dodge ball game. That was a great idea except the biggest monsoon I have ever seen came down and we didn't get to play. That didn't mean that we didn't have fun. We had concerts and talks....and we took the big staff picture and filmed some of the kanakuk Movie. Wanna know Kanakuk tops colleges this summer. (What I mean is these are the colleges that have the most staff) Drum roll please..... #1) Univeristy of Arkansas #2) University of Oklahoma (go sooners! that is my alma mata) #3) Oklahoma State University! Yes, that is right the border states of Texas knocked off Baylor and Texas A&M. They usually take the top two spots and have done so ever since I came here! Well, here is another glimpse of what we did here today at kanakuk. The tramps are ready!

2010 Staff Training 1st Day of Work

We are still working....getting camp ready. Today we are all out at K-2. All of our Kanakuk and Kids Across America Kamps are out there. One fun thing we are doing is trying to put Kanakuk in the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest Dodge Ball Game ever done. I don't know about you but with 1600 people in the game....I think that we have got a shot.

The Slew Crew

Every summer we begin our work week with cleaning out the slew. We call this the slew crew. These 5 girls and 5 boys are hand picked to get all the junk out of the slew so that the kids can go safely down the wet zipline. This summer the water level was a little high because of the rain. It was extra muddy. So kids just remember that when you are flying down that wet zipline and about to have a blast....remember that your counselors got in and cleaned it out for you!

This is what I love about Kanakuk. Our staff will do anything for the kids with a smile on their face.

Teaching and Training (for the parents)

My internet has been down at kamp due to some thunder storms. So today I will blog twice. One for the parents and one for the parents and kids. Here is Kris Cooper the Executive Director of Kanakuk Kamps teaching our staff how to teach an activity. Moms and Dads we are excited for your kids to come and we are getting ready!

The Pea Gravel at Kanakuk

You want to know how I know that kamp is about to happen? The pea gravel truck drops a huge pile of pea gravel in the K-1 girls front circle. ( I think its actually peat gravel but when I was a kamper I called it pea gravel and have ever since) A friendship rock seekers dream...ready to be spread over the entire girls side for you to find your friendship rock and put it on the necklace you have made. You will never know how many kanakuk staff it takes to spread out that pea gravel for you to walk on. Right now we are sitting on it...or playing king of the hill on it. Standing on it is fun because you just sink in it. Anyway, I think that tomorrow we will probably start spreading it. Here is a video of the pile. Your friendship rock just might be in the middle of it.

The Counselors are At Kanakuk!

Today is May 21st. It is a special day in the Kanakuk World because it is the day that the counselors come to Kanakuk. I will be posting every day starting today what is going on at kamp. We are about to have a K-Life for the counselors. I will leave this computer and then go down to the newly cleaned girls gym to watch some K-1 staff get excited about being a Kanakuk. What is more exciting is that they are mostly excited about the kampers coming to camp. This video is a little glimpse of that. By the way...these girls cleaned the cabins today from top to bottom. I don't think there is a bit of dust left in those cabins. We are getting them ready for you!

Kanakuk Parties Part 1 :World Fair

Who? 13 Day Term 1, Term 3, and Term 5 25 day- Term 1, Term 2, Term 3

The worlds fair just happened the first weekend of May. Throughout history countries would get together and "show off" how they live and what they do. It would even be the place that showed the world their new inventions. Take a look at these pics. They are different world fairs and the things that were revealed.

In 1889 The World Fair was from May to October! It was held in France. The entrance to the worlds fair was the Eiffel Tower. It was finished that year and France wanted to show it off!

The first ever ferris wheel was done for the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. An American Engineer named Ferris did this wacky design where a 250-foot wheel would carry people in boxes the size of train cars. today we get to ride Ferris wheels because of the World Fair in Chicago!

The Worlds Fair in 1962 showcased the Space Needle in Seattle!

This is the russian Pavillion for the 2010 Worlds Fair in China!

So, we are going to have a World's Fair this summer at Kanakuk Kamps Dress like anyone from around the world and be ready to experience some of all of the world's cultures!
