Our Last Set of Kampers are Here!

Today we said goodbye to our term 5 campers.  We had a blast while they were here and I am sure they are enjoying their time with their families...hopefully telling them all about kamp this summer.  On the other hand we got our last set of kids and they are super excited to be here!!!!!!  I cant believe we only have two weeks left of the summer but we are going to have a blast for every bit of it.  Tonight we had K-Life.  It was really fun.

Each morning these two weeks we will do a devo and we will teach the kids a corresponding Chant to that Devo.  We are going thru the 5 senses and how we can use them for God's glory.  Here is the Video of what your kids are learnin Click HERE to get a copy of the Devo Chant, Devo Topic and Lyrics.

Devo Song Term 5

For the first two weeks we did Devos every morning and each day we learned a verse to a song.  The song is a favorite song of the kampers.  Justin Beiber's One Time but we changed the words to fit the topics of the devos and taught the kids!

Kanakuk World Fair Party Term 3

We had a really fun day today.  The kids got to wake up late and then we had an all day party!  This morning they vacationed in the Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean.  At the Gulf of Mexico they did Cliff Jumping at Baja (K-1 Tower), went to Cancun (janeland), traveled the Mississippi River (water slides), and zipped across the Panama Canal (ziplines).  In the Mediterranean they did Barn Swing in Monaco (Party Barn), traveled down the Tiber River (slip n slide), spent some time at the Greek Coast (pool), and played soccer in Spain.

This afternoon they went on an Amazing Race.  They went around the world with their cabin and did all sorts of challenges.  Each Challege was timed and they got it marked on their passport.  Some of the Challenges were the following; shark wrestling in Australia, American relay races, noodle games in Italy, Vine swinging relay in the Rainforests, gymnastics relay in Russia, the Antartica Challenge in Lake Taneycomo!

We ate all sorts of World Cusine today and tonight we had a World Fair.  Here is the footage!

Kanakuk K-Kaui Girls Night

If you saw my post yesterday you read that there are many cabins out on trip.  Well, they all are arriving today!  We have missed them tons and can't wait for them to come home!  Last night we suprised the kampers, counselors, kitchies and our volunteer kitchen group with a night at K-Kaui!  The boys were doing man night so they were grilling out so the girls decided to grill out and have a huge cookout at K-Kaui!  We gave the kitchies the night off.  It was so much fun.  There were only 4 cabins in camp.  I dont know if you have ever seen K-Kaui but its more a resort than it is a kamp.  You get all the things of kamp except in the setting of this awesome resort.  Parents...its a fun place to take your family.  We make it a vacation for you!  Here is some footage of the kids having fun!

Term 3 Galactica Spectacula

Tonight we had our Galactica Spectacula party. It was really really fun. We started off the day with green pancakes (because that is what people in outer space eat) We had mint chocolate chip shakes (green icecream) and saucer shaped grilled cheese for lunch. In the early evening we had a "yuk" fight. What is yuk? Well, its a powder that when you add water becomes this clear mushy stuff that you can throw. Its biodegradeable and easy to clean! Then we showered, got our costumes on and then we headed to the Pizza Planet. We recreated the infamous Pizza Planet from Toy Story. Then the kids watched the counselors shoot off rockets and then we had a blacklight dance in the K-dome.

Here is some footage!

Second Term Closing

Well, we closed term 2 down today and opened up term 3.  (Term 4 2 weeks ended and term 5 began)  I have great footage of our new kids but I wanted to put the closing highlights on there.  I know you two weekers from the first two weeks of month term 2 (term 3) wanted to know who won the term.  It was a close one but K-Work from the first two weeks put the Kickapoos on top at the half and the Kiowas fought valiently but K-work again put the Kickapoos on top.  Good job you Kicks!  Third term two weeks you really helped your tribe win!  We also elected Minis for next summer.  Check it out!

Kanakomo Stunt

Tonight was a Kanakomo tradition called Stunt!  Stunt is something that the Kanakomo girls have done since it first opened in the late 50s.  Our princesses plan for this stunt from the moment they find out they are princess!  The kids have worked hard, memorized lines and dances, and made their own costumes!

The Kickapoos went first.  Their Theme was Finding Nemo

The Kiowas went second.  Their theme was Wizard of OZ

Kanakuk Mission Day

Yesterday it rained a little bit on Kanakomo Hill and behind the scenes the leadership team is trying to figure out what to do instead of our planned schedule.  It was a quick decision.  The kiddos love the song One Time and there is a dance to it that one of our counselors made up.  The kids love and all of them want to learn it so we taught it to them.  Their dance session was interrupted by a Drill Sargent telling them their mission.  The Drill Sargent informed the girls that the night before some secret agents came into camp with the intent of stealing their shampoo.  The girls had one mission...protect their shampoo.  They were given 30 minutes to make their cabin a fortress and they had to defend it!  I have never seen the girls so excited to do something!  Again, this is why I loved kamp as a kid...you get to do things here that you don't get to do anywhere else.  They moved bunks, had strategy, stacked trunks...they were ready!  Every single one of their bottles of shampoo was protected well!

Kanakuk Scraper Skit

Today, Cabins 5 and 6 got back from trip and the rest of our two weeks cabins loaded up and went out to trip.  God has blessed our weather.  It looked like there was going to be rain all day but there was only a little bit during Rest Period.  We had a fun day here at kamp.  It was mission impossible day.  This afternoon the kids had to turn their cabins into a unpenatrable fortress.  They had some invaders and they had to keep them out.  I will have video on that tomorrow.

I wanted to share with you a skit that the kids have loved this summer.  This is a video skit that we show at K-Life.  It is a KSPN heartwarming story.

Sunday Morning Coffee Cake

It is a Kanakomo and Kanakuk tradition that we have Coffee Cake every Sunday.  On Sunday mornings the kids are awaken in bed by the smell of cinnamon and sugar.  Its AWESOME!  Kids know that if they are the first ones to the flag pole they get a piece of coffee cake fresh out of the oven.  Kids will wake up and hour early and be ready for it.  Here is a quick video of it.

2nd Term March Madness, Baby!

Hey this is Kristen Cole filling in for Jennifer Farley again.  Tonight might be one of my all time favorite nights in Kamp.  It was a tribal battle to the highest order.  What makes the night so fun is the build up that takes place throughout the afternoon. Girls are split into basketball teams within their tribes (Go Kicks and Kiowas!). Each team is assigned a college to represent. We saw marquee matchups between "schools" like Arkansas, Kansas, and Kentucky, but in the end, it came down to Ole Miss (Kiowas) and Texas A & M (Kickapoos).  Ole Miss came a way with a two-point win over the Aggies.  There was also an MVP game, featuring a hand-picked player from each team. The Kickapoos walked away victorious.

Basketball is just a small part of the day's fun.  What makes me love Madness is seeing the girls going all out for their tribe.  Some are painted from head to toe, some are in costumes that make no sense, everyone, though, goes all out for their tribe. Its a night full of energy and fun. From the tip-off, to the half-time show, to the final buzzer, K1 lights up with fun during March Madness.

K-1 Donut Social

Here are a new two weekers that got to go to the Donut Social.  The donut social is for our kids that are here 4 or more years!

Klinic Day at Kanakuk Kamps

Yesterday there was not a blog because I was spending July 4th with my sweet husband on a 2-4.  The kiddos had a fun 4th of July!  We had our World's Fair Party and celebrated all the different cultures all day long and ended our evening Celebrating the United States of America.  It is a Kanakuk Kamps tradition (well, all the branson camps) to walk to K-Kountry and watch the huge fireworks show all the K-Kountry, K-Kaui, and K-1 men's directors put on!  (You could also see the fireworks from the Branson Landing too)

Today was one of our Klinic Kamps today and I have some great footage of your kiddos at klinics!

Luau Night and Pool Party

Today, everyone came back from trip and we are so glad!  It had been tooo quiet around here.  We sent all of our girls out this week (to avoid the crazy lake on 4th of July) at the same time.  So for the past couple of days we had only 4 cabins in camp!  There was one morning that there were only two cabins in camp!  (due to cabins coming and going on trip) so we had a fun pool party with snacks and music!

At night we also had a Chocolate Fountain and watched a Dive In Movie while floating in the pool.  Kids love Chocolate!  Tonight everyone (excpet cabins 3 and 4) returned from trip and we had K-Life tonight!

Here is some video of our past few days

I have not written about what I love about Kamp in a while.  Tonight I was walking through kamp and I was watching kids play tetherball.  I got to thinking about when I was a kamper.  It was at kamp that I learned to play tetherball, hopskotch, and washers!  Those are games that I someday want to have in my backyard for my kids.  They are such simple games but they are loved here and the line at the tetherball court is always long!  (Good thing we have two courts!)  Anyway, kamp again is a place that you get to do things that are in out there in the real world but maybe not things that you do everyday...or any day!

Kanakomo Girls Night

Today was a fun day!  We had most of our cabins on trip today so this morning we had a fun morning with cabins 3 and 4.  This afternoon cabins 7 and 9 came back from trip while Cabin 5 and 6 went out for their trip.  Our 25 day campers will be on their way home tommorrow.  We have missed them.  I always chuckle at their mail boxes.  They literally overflow when they are not checked for two straight days.  They will have lots of love from you when they return.

Tonight we had cabins 3,4,7,9 in camp and we had a "Girls Night"  We made bracelets, painted nails, had a photo shoot session in front of backdrops with crazy skit clothes...and made a music video.  Here is the big production.  It was amazing.  We had to edit it tonight and the girls will see it tommorrow morning!
