People Always Amaze Me

Okay, this is my second post on this band's video.  I have no idea who they are but they are so stinkin creative.  I watched this like five times to make sure the words were clean...and they are  Watch this video.  This is one of those "cause" and "effect" chain reactions that expands three stories, involves every gadget ever invented, and is so stinkin cool!  I read where this was one live shot!  At the end you will see how many people it took to build it!  Watch and be amazed!  Have a great Wednesday.  Three more Days until Oklahoma beats Texas...Oops, I mean the OU/TX game.

Its OU vs Texas Week!

Well, its my favorite time of year.  Yes, the week that The Univeristy of Oklahoma plays the Univeristy of Texas in Football.  I get so excited about it.  I am 32 years old and I went to my first OU/TX game at at 8.  Since I was 8 I have only not gone to two games.  That is 22 OU/TX games in person!  Well, I am missing this weekend.  I will be watching it from home.  I am sad because not only is the game a blast, but the State Fair of Texas is AWESOME!  I know alot of you live close to Dallas and I hope that you get to go to the State Fair of Texas.  I am an Oklahoman, and I like Texas alot, but I am not sold on its claims that EVERYTHING is better in Texas.  I am sold that the state fair of Texas is the best there is.  I will post my top ten favorite things about the State Fair of Texas later this week.  But now, I want to brag on my mom.  My mom entered her fig preserves into the Texas State Fair contest and she won!!!!!!  So, if you go to the State Fair of Texas, go into the food competition building and check out the preserves section.  Look for Jenny Mitchell's famous Fig Preserves because she, according to the State Fair of Texas, has the best preserves in the State of Texas.  Thats pretty good if you ask me.

Did you know.  Texas has Beaten Oklahom 59 times and Oklahoma has only beaten Texas 41 times.  Texas fans are you rejoicing?  Okay, okay you win that one, but Oklahoma has won the national championship 7 times and Texas has only won 4 times.   Oklahoma has won the Big 12 Championship 7 times and Texas only 5 times.

Its Friday!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited that its Friday.  Here are my favorite things to do with my Mom and Dad on the Weekends.  I am older now so I don't see my parents everyday, but the things I like to do with my parents now is not much different.

  1. Watch College Football with my Dad.  He gets so animated.  I usually jump up and high five him when OU scores.  He took me to the national championship game when OU played FSU.  (we won by the way :)  I think his arm still has permanent finger marks where I clenched his arm when I was nervous.
  2. Go shopping with my mom.  Its not even about getting stuff.  Its going out and about and enjoying the day.
  3. Going to movies with my Dad.  He will either sleep or love it.  He always gets popcorn.  Sorry mom, I have probably had more "really bad for you" popcorn in my life than you know.  Sorry dad, I ratted you out.
  4. My mom teaching me how to sew and do crafty things.  I didn't really like this when I was younger, but she was always making things (cross stiching, making tons of christmas doormats, sewing)  She would always have me help her.  I learned alot from her and I love it now!  Mom, when you come visit next..you have got to help me sew a slip cover for a thrift store chair I bought.
Then someday, you will get married and see how your husband likes to spend time with his parents. Here is Lee's fave things to do with his mom and dad:

  1. He (and now I) love to try out new things with his mom OR go with her to try out new things he or she's found.
  2. He loved to talk to his dad about life and when he was away from home, would call  most nights.
  3. With both, we really enjoyed playing games.  His dad would KILL us in Monopoly or LIFE.  His mom is really good at the "telephone picture game" and Mad Gab  ( "Chew Lie Tea Force " - its an inside joke from Mad Gab that I still laugh at from time to time.  When you play Mad Gab, you will understand.)
All that to say, have a fun weekend.  Cheer for the Sooners to beat Cincinatti.  For my best friend Ashley (check out her blog here) cheer for Arkansas to beat Alabama....and spend some time with your mom and dad!

Vinyl Record Crafts

I know sometimes that you think that your mom and dad never understand.  You think that because they don't live in your generation that they have no idea how to relate.  The crazy thing is that technology and trends may change, but the realities of what matters in life does not change.  So listen up to your parents because they really can relate.  You might have your ipod (and I am sure they do to) but really its the same idea as the walkman or discman, it can just do more.  (If you are asking yourself what is a walkman or discman...just ask your parents)  My mom listened to music on a Vinyl records.  They don't use them much any more, but I found a fun craft that you can do with them.  Check this out!

This could be a fun craft to do with your mom.  Go to the thrift store and find some cheap vinyl records!

99 Balloons

Well, I think I have officially decided to make this Mom and Dad week.  I mean, the swagger wagon was a good start right?  I know that we normally celebrate Mom in May and then Dad sometime in June, but why not do it this week?  Well, yesterday I hopefully made you laugh.  Todays video might make you cry.  I think that we don't ever realize how much our mom's and dad's do to support us, love us, and make life great for us.  This video reminded me of that fact.  This is a story of little Elliot.  Elliot's parents actually worked for kamp and k-life at one time.  Before Elliot was born, the doctor told his parents that he had Trisomy 18.  Elliot had a chromosonal defect that would not give him long to live.  His parents were excited to love and care for him all the days God gave him...whether it just be life in the belly, one day, or many years.   Your parents love you in this same way.  They will do anything for your well being and to give you life!  Grab a tissue.

I wish my dog could do this

So, I got a baby announcement from one of my friends in Branson, Geoff and Lindsay Todd.  You might know them if you went to K-Kaui this summer becuase GT (as he is widely known) is one of the directors.  You might also know him from his days of K-Klassic.   Before KAA took it over he was one of the directors.  He and Lindsay just had a baby girl.  On their invitation they directed you to more were pictures on their family blog.  I went there and Harper is the most adorable thing.  Doesn't suprise me with those two. All  that being said, the reason why I am posting about this, I scrolled down at their other posts and found this!  I have to say that I am jealous that Piper, my dog, can't do this.    I want to know how they trained their dog!  This is amazing.  I think Piper can do it because She loves to swim, but jumping off the diving board would be a little bit scary for her.  Even if I did get her to jump off the diving board, I am not sure she would do it with such form!  I am also absolutely positive Piper could not climb the ladder.  Maybe next summer you can help me teach my dog to do this at K-1.

By the way, this unbelieveable footage was taken at K-Klassic.  Thanks GT and Lindsay for posting it on youtube!!!

The Ponytail

So last night there was a storm in Branson.  Check out how God protected the Ponytail.  Don't laugh at me videoing myself.  That's why my profession is not as a t.v or movie star!

Silly Band Soap!

Silly Bands, rubber shaped bands...whatever you want to call them...THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!  I am not going to lie...I definitely got into the trend at kamp.  I saw Diane Cooper the other day, and she still had one on from kamp!  My favorite thing was trading them.  I often times can't really tell what they are, but I always relied on the kampers to tell me.  Once, on a 2-4, my husband and I went to a movie.  I looked over at me and said "what is glowing in the dark?"  I had not realized that some of them were glow in the dark!    My favorite shape? Hmmm.....well, if you asked Kristen Cole, hers would have been her diamond ring shaped silly band, but I loved my pink glow-in-the-dark flamingo.  When I found this craft on the internet I about flipped!  I had to show it to you!  It might be beyond my craft skill level, but I thought it would be neat to show you other ways to use a silly band.  Make soap and put the silly bands in them!  I can't seem to find my glow in the dark pink flamingo, but if I made these with it my bathroom would not only have a cool memory from kamp, but it could serve as a night light when I have to go to the bathroom at in the middle of the night!   So, if you do chose to do this craft, take a pic and send it to me at reno@kanakuk.com.  If you want the instructions for how to, click here.

Amazing Painting Ponies

Okay, if you know me you know that I love animals.  I don't love them enough to have all kinds in my house, but I just love how God gives all his creation personality!  I found this on one of the other blogs that I follow and was so amazed that I wanted you to see it.  Part of me wants to train Piper to do this, except I think she would think I was giving her a toy and check the brush up and then want me to thow it to her.  But what if I taped a brush to her tail and let her "wag paint"  She would hate that so I won't do it.  I will just leave it to these painting ponies.  The crazy thing is that you can buy their paintings!

Top Ten Things I miss About Kamp this September Monday

Well, we are officially a month out from kamp.  Kamp ended on August 12 and the last bit of staff left on August 13th.  So today, I started thinking about what I missed about kamp.  Here is my top ten list

10.)  The tree house.  Sometimes its hot up there and I am there alot in the summer, but today I miss getting to hear the lifestory of everyone that I hook up to rapel down or climb up.

9.)  Ice Cream.  Yes, I know that I can have lots of good icecream now, but kamp icecream after a hot meal on a hot day.  There is no sweeter thing!

8.)  Peat Gravel.  Random, I know but for 3 months of the summer I hear my steps crunch when I walk.  Sometime, right after kamp, I almost expect to hear the crunch.  Its a great sound.

7.)  Stinky shoes.  Well, maybe I don't miss the smell or the sweat, but outside of kamp, its not as special to put your flip flops on.  The moments at camp when you get to take your shoes off and put your flops on....its a little slice of heaven and joy.  Now, there just everyday flip flops.

6.)  Morning chats with our head cook Jeanie.  As you know, I lived on the boys side at kamp (or maybe you didn't know that)  That is where my house is.  Every morning I got up at 6 am and I had to walk thru  the dining hall to get to my desk.  Jeanie, our cook, was faithfully making breakfast.  I would always stop to say "Hello."  Great way to start my day.

5.)  High Fashion is nike shorts, ponytail and a flower headband.  Don't get me wrong, I love my job in the off season, but I love the laid back atmosphere at kamp.  Get up, put your hair in a "pony", put your flower headband on (the one you made in craft class) and go to flag.

4.)  K-Life - does anyone laugh like I do at K-Life.  I try to stay laughing year round...but not as much as I do at skits like the scraper video.  I miss K-life.

3.)  Parties, I mean I get to dress up in costumes for my job?  Kamp is the best job ever!

2.)  Moments.  There are thousands of them everyday and they all mean something special....to a ton of different people.  It could be memories in the making, frienships being formed, the funniest thing you have ever seen, the craziest experience ever, the coolest thing you saw, or the time that impacted your life the most.

1.)  The people.  Kampers, staff, leadership, kitchies, counselors, nurses, tripmen, office girls, osages... where in the world do you find about 400 people who are having fun, seeking to live for Jesus and  all in the same place?    K-1  (and of course kanakuk's other kamps!)

why do you miss camp?  comment below.  Love ya'll

A Fun Craft: Head Bands

This summer we made some cool headbands.  I found another headband that I thought was cool and easy to make.  I might try and make it this weekend.

I found this on a blog website.  Click HERE to find how to do it.  Have a fun.  Send me pics of ones you make!

Kanakuk K-1 New Soccer Field

I took my dog Piper for a walk the other day down at kamp. When I walked down to the top of the stairls by the Zipline tower I stopped in my tracks. There was no grass on the soccer field. It was a big brown dirt field! Come to find out (I didn't even know) that K-1 was getting a new soccer field! Here is what is looks like right now as they are putting the sod into our K-1 field!  I love our maintenance guys.  They are the biggest reason that we have fun things at kamp and they always go unnoticed.  Not today.  Thanks guys!

Do you like to watch Movies?

Do you love to watch movies?  My family is a movie watching family and its easy to get caught up in whats new and what everyone is seeing.  These pics above are examples of shows and movies that are popular.  Its easy to just go watch them based on the world's opinion instead of checking them out.   Lately I have started some movies that I really are not great movies.  Some because they were not appropriate and some because they were not good movies (meaning, boring or bad acting)  I don't really watch R rated movies, so I picked the movies off of the description and PG or PG-13 rating. What I should have done is check them out BEFORE I watch them.  I have NetFlix instant watch on my TV and its easy to just settle in without checking.  Its easy to do that when you channel surf on TV.   How do you check out a movie or TV show before you watch?   Check out the Focus on the Family website.  It has a great website called http://www.pluggedin.com/  This is a great thing to make sure what you are watching on TV or in Movies is age appropriate AND appropriate to be watching at all.

Ok Go - Here It Goes Again (The Treadmill Video)

Okay, I found this on youtube and I wanted to share it with you because I am always looking for ideas of creativity for kamp! this is so creative! I want to try it with some friends. I would not reccommend trying this at home. I got on a treadmill with more than one person once and it didn't go so well. I also know nothing about this band. I listened to the words to make sure it was clean, but I have no idea what this band is all about. If you like the music make sure you check out if what their saying in other songs is something that you should be listening to. I love thier creativity and I store away stuff like this to inspire creativity with my leadership team at kamp!  Okay, for some reason it wont embed so click on this link to get to it.
