Have you ever thought about that saying... please try to imagine cats and dogs raining down from the sky... I bet it's pretty funny! I love rainy days though! The sounds of a storm just make my heart happy :)

Today I just wanted to leave you with a fun videoclip! This little dude has really got some great points!

Check Yo Self!

What's Up Kanakomo Ladies?!

Holy cow it's the last week of fruits! Can you believe it? I sure can't! Let's do the verse...

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love

        joy

              peace

                        patience,

                                       kindness

                                                     goodness,

                                                                    faithfulness

                                                                                   gentleness

                                                                                                   self-control;
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

Have you memorized that yet? I have a deal for you... If you come to Kamp this summer with that verse memorized and you say it to me... You will get a tasty treat! What an easy way to get a sweet!

Have you ever seen a full plate of cookies and before you knew it you ended up eating them all? Maybe at first you thought... I'll just have one... well maybe another.... three won't isn't that bad... and then all of the sudden you realize there are no more cookies?! Believe me, I have had this problem before! This my friends is a lack of self-control!

There is a lot of stuff in this world that you cannot control... but one thing you always can control is how you behave! You may not be able to control how much homework you are assigned, but you can control if you complete it all! You may not be able to control if your friends are doing the right things or not, but you can control if you are! My mom use to always ask me the same question when I was growing up and it use to drive me crazy then... but now I love it! When I was frustrated with how others were acting around me she would always ask me "Whose behavior can you control?" and I always had to respond with "My own." Isn't that a great reminder?!

So ladies, when you are out and about this weekend, remember that you are responsible for your actions and that the Lord wants us to have self-control! He loves us to have fun too don't get me wrong, but we also have responsibilities!

On another note....

Ice! Ice! Ice! We have got ice all over the place here! The funny thing is we haven't had any rain or snow to make this ice... it just seems to appear. Kinda weird isn't it?! I went for a run around K1 the other day and took some snapshots of the ice I saw.

Check out all the ice on the girl's stairs!
This icicle went all the way to the ground!
It was taller than I am!
There is even ice on the lake... but no shocker there...
It is always cold!!!
I promise to quit posting about how cold it is soon... really I do! Just enjoy that hot chocolate recipe and stay inside and stay WARM!!!!

Gentleness

Hey There Kanakomo Ladies!!!

Did any of you make the hot chocolate from the recipe I posted on Tuesday? Did you like it? I sure hope so!

Can you girls believe we are on our second to last fruit this week? It's crazy isn't it?! I bet you all can say the verse from memory by now!

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love

        joy

             peace

                     patience,

                                 kindness

                                            goodness,

                                                      faithfulness

                                                                  gentleness

                                                                           self-control;
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

Have you ever been in a situation where somebody maybe didn't say or do the nicest thing? I know I have! In fact, I'll go ahead and admit that sometimes I find myself being that person. I don't always think about how my words or actions may affect someone until it is too late. I hate it when I do that! God call us to be gentle in our actions towards others.

"The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth" - 2nd Timothy 2:24,25

You see when we are gentle with people, it can point them towards JESUS! But if we are harsh or mean to people it points people away from Him.

So here is my challenge to you:
Be GENTLE!!! Point people towards Jesus this week!

I think y'all can do it :)

Love ya!

Brrrrrrr!

Hello Kanakomo Ladies!!!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! It has been so cold here the past few days! When I moved up here I knew it would be colder but I didn't really think about it much... that is until it hit me right in the face! When I left my room yesterday, I walked right into a lovely 13 degree wall. I did not know what had hit me! Now for those of you who live up north you probably think that I am just being a weenie... and you know what? You would be correct! The cold and I just are not friends!

Now there are some things that come with the cold I like such as big sweaters, jackets, blankets, fires, and hot cocoa! I love things that go with the cold but just not the cold itself! It's a problem I know! I thought today I would share a great recipe I found for homemade hot chocolate! When it's cold outside I love to curl up on the couch (wearing a big ole sweater), snuggle up with a blanket, have the fire going, read a book, and drink hot cocoa!

Ok so here is the recipe:

1/3 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 Cup white sugar
1 Pinch salt
1/3 Cup boiling water
I got this recipe from this site!
3 1/2 Cups milk
3/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 Cup half-and-half cream

Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

I hope you enjoy it!

Love ya ladies!

Faithfulness

Happy Friday Kanakomo Ladies!

I am going to be switching up the blog a little bit... you will be hearing from me on Tuesdays and Fridays now!

Today I want to continue our study of the Fruits of the Spirit. It's been a long time since we did goodness... do you remember the verse?

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
        joy
             peace
                     patience
                                 kindness
                                            goodness
                                                      faithfulness
                                                                  gentleness
                                                                           self-control
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

You girls are so smart I'm sure you not only remembered the verse but I bet you figured out that today we are going to talk about faithfulness! Do you know what it means to be faithful or to have faith? Being faithful means to be loyal to a belief, cause, or person. That sounds like something I want to be!

There is a story in the Bible about three men who were really, really faithful to God. You can find this story in the book of Daniel (that's in the Old Testament) chapter three. You see there was this really powerful king named King Nebuchadnezzar (quite a name I know!) and he thought he was so great that he made a gold statue that he ordered everybody to bow down to and worship like they would a god or else he would throw them into a blazing furnace. Everybody in his kingdom was obeying him except for three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. They refused to bow down to the statue because they would only worship the one true God and they were remaining FAITHFUL to Him. When the King found out he gave the men one more chance to worship his statue. Their response was of complete faith. They said,

"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."

WOW! How faithful they were to say that! They knew that God could rescue them if He chose to do so but even if He didn't they would not break their loyalty to Him! That's pretty cool!

They story ends with the king throwing Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego into the furnace but guess what?! God protected them! They didn't even smell like smoke! God completely came through for them and I would be it was because of their faith in Him! King Nebuchadnezzar saw how BIG God was and commanded his whole kingdom to worship the real God of the universe!

God uses our faithfulness to do BIG things! How can you be faithful in your life? Don't worry I'm not telling you to throw yourself into a fire... really... don't do that! You can be faithful in other ways! Like doing your chores when your parents tell you to, doing all your homework on time, reading the Bible and praying to God! You can be faithful in everything you do! Just do it the best you can!

Let me know how you girls are being faithful this week!
Miss ya!

Long Time No See!!!

Hey there girlies!!
I am sorry for my little hiatus over Christmas break but guess what?! I'm back! How was everybody's Christmas? Did any of you get a white Christmas? This was a very odd Christmas for me indeed! My family usually goes out to my grandparents farm (just like we do for Thanksgiving) and we spend a few days out there. This year we packed up to head out but once we got there there were reports of a REALLY big snow storm coming and we had to go back home so we wouldn't be stranded! When it came time for the snow storm... it only snowed half an inch! How silly was that?! Did any of you have funny stories about your break? I'd love to hear them!

One of my favorite parts of the break was getting to drive from Branson, MO to Atlanta, GA for the Passion Conference! It was a really fun road trip I got to take with a few of my friends who attend the Kanakuk Institute with me! After getting in the car and driving 13 hours we finally arrived in the city of Atlanta. The long drive was well worth it because it was so cool! Passion is a really neat event where there worship leaders like Chris Tomlin and David Crowder and amazing speakers like John Piper and Beth Moore. There were over 60,000 people there all worshiping God! It was absolutely AMAZING!!! Just to give you an idea of how many people that is... We were in the Georgia Dome which is where the Atlanta NFL team plays. It is a building with THREE levels of seating and guess what... THAT WASN'T ENOUGH! They had to open up seating on the floor! It was so stinking cool! The Lord used this event to fill me up with His awesome love and joy! When you girls are in college one day I highly suggest attending this event! It is well worth it!

Guess who I ran into while I was there?! That's right a bunch of YOUR counselors, kitchies, and office girls!!! It was so fun to get to catch up with everybody! Everybody who was there all agree that we want each one of you back at K1 this summer! We have missed all of your bright, smiling faces inside the Kanakomo gates! Can you believe Kamp is less than five months away! It is going to be here before we know it!

I love you girls!!!!
