I am going to be switching up the blog a little bit... you will be hearing from me on Tuesdays and Fridays now!
Today I want to continue our study of the Fruits of the Spirit. It's been a long time since we did goodness... do you remember the verse?
"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love,
joy,
peace,
patience,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness,
self-control;
against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22-23
You girls are so smart I'm sure you not only remembered the verse but I bet you figured out that today we are going to talk about faithfulness! Do you know what it means to be faithful or to have faith? Being faithful means to be loyal to a belief, cause, or person. That sounds like something I want to be!
There is a story in the Bible about three men who were really, really faithful to God. You can find this story in the book of Daniel (that's in the Old Testament) chapter three. You see there was this really powerful king named King Nebuchadnezzar (quite a name I know!) and he thought he was so great that he made a gold statue that he ordered everybody to bow down to and worship like they would a god or else he would throw them into a blazing furnace. Everybody in his kingdom was obeying him except for three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. They refused to bow down to the statue because they would only worship the one true God and they were remaining FAITHFUL to Him. When the King found out he gave the men one more chance to worship his statue. Their response was of complete faith. They said,
"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."
WOW! How faithful they were to say that! They knew that God could rescue them if He chose to do so but even if He didn't they would not break their loyalty to Him! That's pretty cool!
They story ends with the king throwing Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego into the furnace but guess what?! God protected them! They didn't even smell like smoke! God completely came through for them and I would be it was because of their faith in Him! King Nebuchadnezzar saw how BIG God was and commanded his whole kingdom to worship the real God of the universe!
God uses our faithfulness to do BIG things! How can you be faithful in your life? Don't worry I'm not telling you to throw yourself into a fire... really... don't do that! You can be faithful in other ways! Like doing your chores when your parents tell you to, doing all your homework on time, reading the Bible and praying to God! You can be faithful in everything you do! Just do it the best you can!
Let me know how you girls are being faithful this week!
Miss ya!
