Kanakuk Crafty Thing of the week: T-Shirt Necklace

I don't know about you but one of my favorite things at Kanakuk is making crafts! I am in the process of picking what I will be doing with you this summer. ( A couple years ago I did the flower rings and last year I did the ribbon clips) Here is a fun craft that I found online. A t-shirt necklace. These can be as easy and you want and as elaborate as you want. Here is my simplified instrustions:

1.) Pick an Old T-shirt or two
2.) Cut strips as long as you want your necklace to be. The strips will curl up when you cut so cut a 1 inch strip and it will be 1/4 inch when it is curled up. It could be cool to cut different widths.

How to cut:
Figure out which way the Grain is going (see picture) The grain are the little lines that form your t-shirt. If you stretch it...you can see them!

1.) If you want the front of your shirt to show then cut alonside of the grain (the samde direction)
2.) If you want the backside to show then cut across the grain.

Beads and other stuff:
You can put fun stuff on there if you want, just cut the strips small enough to put your favorite bead through. Or you can put knots in it or pin things onto them. You can sew buttons or ribbon...The sky is the limit.

Finishing The Necklace:
1.) Get a small key ring or index card ring.
2.) tie the ends of your necklace to the ring. (See picture)
3.) You want the necklace to be one that you can easily put over your head.

I am going to try and make one tonight! I will post my picture tomorrow!

American Idol Hollywood Week

Okay, some of you don't watch American Idol and I know alot of you do. I thought I would give my opionions and listen to yours as we go through this 9th season of American Idol. At this point, its really hard to figure out which one you really like. I will be able to tell who I really like (talent wise) next week! Right now, all I have to go off of is the little that I have seen of them and their stories....so here are my thoughts.

The two people I think have the best voices so far are Andrew Garcia and Crystal Bowersock. I know nothing about them except that they have some sweet vocal chords.

The happiest contestant is Hayeley Vaughn just because she is always smiling. I think she is unique!

Micheal Lynch has the Craziest story. Wow! I can't believe he missed his baby being born, so I hope he makes it pretty far. I still don't know if missing your first baby being born is worth it...even if it is American Idol.

The Coolest story is Casey James. I mean, he was told he would never play guitar again. Now he is on American Idol!

The Coolest Earing Award during auditions was Lilly Scott. seriously, where does she get those?

The contestant I am Most Excited to learn more about is Paige Miles and Katie Stevens. I didn't get to hear them sing much.....can't wait to hear more.

I am excited to tell you more next week with the top 24! If you have no idea who any of these people are you can click HERE to see their pics!

Cool Poem from a K-1 Kanakuk Kamper

Hannah, a Term 1 K-1 Kamper wrote this poem and I thought I would share it with you! I thought it was very creative and it made me smile! She summed it all up really well!

When I go to Kamp
I’ll be a champ
We will study the Bible
And on trip learn survival
We will share delicious food
And game night attitude
We will jump in the lake
And dance to “Ice cream and Cake”!
We will have fun on the track
And then eat a snack
And on a hot day
We’ll eat ice cream and say
“I love kamp!”
It’s the only place to be a champ
When I go to Kamp
We’ll have K-life some nights
And some dodge ball fights
I will stay a whole month
And will not give a grunt!

Sincerely,
hannah

Cheez is Getting Married!!!!

Do you remember Cheez from kamp in the summers. He has been a trip man for the last few years and he was also the programs guy (in charge of parties and K-Life) before most of you were kampers. He found a girl and he asked her to marry him! Here is his proposal video! Thanks Cheez for giving props to Kanakuk, KAA and K-1 in you proposal!

Lousiana Hot Sauce

Okay, I know that you tube is a huge thing out there on the internet. I am a fan but I will say that you MUST be careful about what is on youtube. There are great things and not so great things so just like t.v. or movies.....you need to ask yourself before you press play....does this glorify God? Well, its my mission in this blog to have fun and also give you a safe place on the internet to laugh, and have some fun! My friend Tim Oliphant (many of you know him as the 2008 American Gladiator winner) has entered a video contest for Louisiana Hot Sauce. He is pretty good with videos (seeing that he does all Kankuk's awesome videos...) and for this contest he had to make a unique comercial using louisiana hotsauce! Its stars my best friend's baby lulu!!! (if you go to K-1 next summer you will meet LuLu! Here it is!
