Tree House Ice Cream Recipe!

How was your weekend girls??

I hope you all had a great time! Did anybody carve a pumpkin? If you did, you should send me a picture  I will post it on the blog!

How many of you girls got to spend a night in the tree house this summer?! I have a confession for you... I have never gotten the opportunity! But I know that if you do, you get to have some pretty great ice cream! Depending on when you were here this summer, either Ross or Josh made some of the best ice cream I bet you have ever had!

I was lucky and Ross taught me how to make it so today, yes today, I am going to teach you girls! There are a few things you are going to need to make this work...

An ice cream maker (there are all sorts but I think the old fashion ones make the best batches!)

5 Cups of whipping cream
4 Cups of milk
3 Cups of Half n Half
1 drinking cup of sugar (we use the cups your drink from at kamp for this)
2 splashes of vanilla
Dash of salt
Rock Salt

In the metal cylinder pour in the whipping cream, milk, and half n half. Then pour in the sugar, vanilla and a little bit of salt (key phrase: little bit). Put the cylinder in the wooden bucket and fill up the bucket with a layer of ice followed by a layer of rock salt. Continue this pattern until the bucket is full to the brim with ice. ***IMPORTANT*** Be generous with your rock salt!! If you skimp on it your ice cream won't be creamy!!

Turn on the machine or start cranking (depending on what type of machine you have) for 10-15 minutes. Make sure to keep adding ice and rock salt! During this time you should start cutting up or smashing your flavor ingredients! For this example I'll tell you my favorite... MINT OREO! SO GOOD!!!!! I mash up a package of mint oreos and add in a few teaspoons of mint extract. But you can really do anything! You can add in any type of candy or fruit. I have even seen people put cereal in their ice cream! Be creative!

Once you add in your toppings to the cylinder go ahead and mix them for about 10-15 more minutes. You want to watch the ice level and add more ice and rock salt as it goes. After about 20-25 total minutes of being mixed start checking to see if it is ready or not. It will look nice and creamy when it is!

You can put it in a bowl and freeze it or eat it right away! Either way... you have just made yourself some awesome ice cream!!!

Enjoy!

Pumpkin Carving

Hey girls!

I don't know about where you live, but here in Branson the cold weather has finally rolled in! We went from being unseasonably warm to cold and rainy real quick. Like I woke up to a lovely sunny, warm day and as I am writing this now it is cold and raining. Go figure!

Have you thought about what you are going to do this weekend? Well if you are in the Kansas City area you should definitely go to the Fall Bash at the Kansas City K-Life house! It is going to be full of great K1 guys and gals and there will be a ton of fun games! Remember it is on Saturday from 3-6 pm!

What about everybody else? One of my favorite October activities is to carve pumpkins! I love to drive out to the local pumpkin patch and pick out a great pumpkin and then make fun faces with them. I have a bit of a weird method of picking the "perfect" pumpkin. Some people look for the really tall pumpkins while others look for that perfect round pumpkin.

Me, I look for the pumpkin with the weird shape and color. Also, the more warts the better! I think they have more character. Plus they are so unique! Check out the guy! He has got some pretty big lumps!

Once you have you pumpkin go ahead and draw on your design. You can click here for a few ideas! When the design is ready to go, grab an adult to help you with the cutting. You will have to cut a hole on the top of the pumpkin and pull out all of the inside stuff. After the inside is nice and clean you can start cutting the design out! Stick a candle inside of it and EUREKA! you have a jack-o-lantern!

It is a really fun thing you can do with your whole family and with friends!

Have a great weekend!

JOY!!

Happy Wednesday Kanakomo!

Well do you remember what we talk about on Wednesdays? The Word! Last week we talked about the first fruit of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, LOVE. Do you remember the verse?

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Today we are going to talk about the second, JOY!

Joy is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible! I think that means God wants to make sure we know about it!

A joyful heart is good medicine,
But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22

These things I have spoken to you
so that My joy may be in you,
and that your joy may be made full.
John 15:11

Therefore you too have grief now;
but I will see you again, and your
heart will rejoice, and no one
will take your joy away from you.
John 16:22

Joy is not the same thing as happy. You might be happy when you get a good grade on a test or win a soccer game, but joy comes from the Lord! God calls us to always be joyful!

"Rejoice always"
1st Thessalonians 5:16

Joy comes hand in hand with Jesus, because He is joy! The more you follow Jesus, the more joy you will be filled with! You might still have some hard times but your joy from the Lord will never leave you!

And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 13:52

What are some joys in your life? I would love to hear about them!
Have a good rest of your week!

Hello Sweet Komos!

How was your weekend? Did you get to spend anytime outside? I sure hope so! It was a gorgeous weekend here in Branson. The sun was shining and there was a lovely breeze. It was 72 degrees of perfection! I didn't get to go hiking as I had hoped but I did get to set up my hammock down by Lake Taneycomo and read my Bible.
I'm not going to lie... it was pretty great!

You know how I told you all a couple of weeks ago that I love OU football?

Well another team I absolutely love is the Oklahoma City Thunder! And their season is kicking off! I grew up just 15 minutes North of the city so I have always had a soft spot in my heart for OKC. However, a professional team of any capacity is a very new thing for us! A lot of you are from states that have plenty of pro teams like Kansas and Texas but if you are from a state like Oklahoma like I am, then you may understand why finally having a team to root for is such a BIG deal! After college football season is over, the state changes from being a split mess of red (OU's color) and orange (OSU's) color to a unified rolling sea of blue (Thunder's color)! It is a really neat thing that everybody is all on the same side for something!

Naturally, when I think of basketball I have to think about the fun March Madness tournament we do at Kamp! You girls really show your great skills out there on the court! You always play hard and you always have such a great attitude!

Here are the videos from this summer's tournaments.

If you were at Kamp the first two weeks click here!

If you were at Kamp the first month click here!

If you were at Kamp the second month click here!

Enjoy the clips!

Miss you girls!

Enjoying God's Creation!

Hey there Kanakomo Ladies!
It's FRIDAY!! I love Fridays! Friday means you get two and a half days to do something different than what you do during the week. This could be hanging out with friends and family, maybe going to see a movie, or if you are really lucky... hanging outside! I love being in God's creation and enjoying every bit of it! I especially love it during this time of the year. The leafs here in Branson are in middle of changing colors... it is beautiful!

Look how pretty those trees are! Perhaps I will will do the Branson Zipline this weekend!

I checked out the forecast for this weekend and I could not believe what I saw. I thought I had flashed back to Kamp and the Morning Show was playing because the forecast showed that it is suppose to be sunny, 72 degrees with a slight breeze! Misty finally got it right! I am hoping to go hiking tomorrow so I can use up this good weather while it's here! You girls should take advantage of your warm weekends too! Talk to your parents about going somewhere together! Bust out the bicycles and go on a family bike ride! Enjoy the weather while you can!

Speaking of what to do on weekends... Calling all KANSAS CITY K1 Kampers! On Saturday, October 27th from 3-6pm there is going to be a reunion at the Kansas City K-Life House! That is NEXT weekend!!! We are going to be singing songs, playing games, and doing all sorts of stuff! I am going to be there and there will be some staff members there too! It is going to be a blast so I would love to see you all there!

I miss you girls!!

LOVING the Fruits of the Spirit

Hello Ladies! And we are ladies!!!

Do you remember last Wednesday when we talked about Psalm 139:14? Have you all been remembering how you are "fearfully and wonderfully made" by God? I hope so because it is the truth!
I've decided to make turn Wednesday into Wednesday's Word. You can tune in every week on Wednesday and find a little nugget from God's love letter to us! For the next few weeks we are going to do a fruit of the spirit each week. Who knows what verse is about the fruits of the spirit?

Think about it...

It's in the New Testament...

Galatians 5:22-23
"But the fruit of the Spirit is lovejoypeacepatiencekindnessgoodnessfaithfulness, gentlenessself-control; against such things there is no law."

Who thought that when I said fruit of the Spirit I meant these fruits
I sure did the first time I heard it!

Well these fruits are a little bit different than the fruit you eat! These are characteristics that you can have that God has too! There are not always the easiest to do, but they are always good.

The first one is LOVE! God calls us to not only LOVE Him but to LOVE everybody else as well!

"You shall LOVE the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." - Matthew 22:37

"You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself." - Matthew 22:39

It may sound easy... but sometimes it can be really hard! I know you can do it though! With the help of Christ you can love everybody!

I want you to try showing Christ's love to everybody around you this week. That may look like you encouraging somebody who is having a hard day, or being nice to somebody who is not being nice to you. One of the most loving things you can do is to tell somebody about Jesus and what He did for everybody!

I would love to hear how you are showing God's love to the people around you! Leave me a comment and tell me about it!

Komo Love,
Logan

Why Lecrae Loves Kamp!

What's up Komos?!

For today's post I am putting a video of everybody's favorite Christian rapper, Lecrae! Lecrae makes so many great songs we jam out to every summer! There's "Send Me, I'll Go", "Catch That Wave" and my personal favorite "Fanatic"! He writes one of our Kamp theme songs every year. In this video he talks about why he loves Kamp... Check it out!

Here is a picture of me with a fellow kitchie from a couple years ago getting ready to dance to a Lecrae song. Can anybody name the girl I am with?!

Miss you girls so much!

Red River Rivalry 2012

Hello Girls!

There is something I feel like I should tell you... I am an absolute, die hard Oklahoma football fan! I am a 4th generation Sooner (this means my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents went to OU) so I have been going to games as long as I can remember. In fact, this year living in Missouri has made me miss my first home OU game in YEARS! It was a very sad day but thankfully Reno let me come watch with her so I could be with a fellow Sooner! What I am trying to say here is that I love love LOVE my school's team!
This is myself and a friend at a home game from last year.

This weekend is like a holiday for all OU fans. The Dallas game, the BIG game, THE RED RIVER RIVALRY! Every year thousands of Oklahoma fans drive down to Dallas while thousands of texas fans drive up. It is a meeting of the big guns in an awesome fashion. The game is played at the Cotton Bowl which is smack dab in the middle of the Texas State Fair. So I say hello to Big Tex and grab a Fletcher's Corny Dog (literally the best corn dog in the whole world) and I make my way into the game!

Now once you are inside the stadium it is SO LOUD! The stadium is split right down the 50 yard line. Oklahoma on one side, texas on the other. Both sides are trying their best to be louder than the other and let me tell you I have never heard a louder noise! Not even when we ask if the Komos are here at K-Life!

This year should be a pretty good game! Both teams only have one loss so we are not only fighting for this win, but a chance at being the Big XII Champs! Who do you think is going to win? Oklahoma or Texas? As for me, I have got to go with my Sooners!

For all of you who will be watching a football game this weekend, whether it is this game or not, good luck to your team! We miss you!

Boomer Sooner!

Loving Words

Hey Girls!

Have you ever read a bible verse that makes your heart warm? I love finding those and treasuring them in my heart. Then, when I am feeling a little blue I can think of those verses and I can find joy in the Lord! God wants us to know His Word.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." - Colossians 3:15

Here is a verse I challenge you to memorize. I think this verse is really important for girls to know! I LOVE it and it brings me so much joy to think about it!
I found this craft on Pinterest and this is the website you can purchase different bible verse crafts at. They make some pretty neat stuff!

What are your favorite verses? Have you memorized any lately? Leave a comment and let me know!

Love ya!

We Miss You!!!

Hello Kanakomo ladies!
How are you doing? Has school been going well? We sure miss you here in Branson, America! When kampers leave Kamp is just not the same. How could it be? The best part of it isn't here... YOU!!!

This blog is a way we hope to stay in touch with you during the year. We want to hear all about you! We would love to hear how your sports team did in their last game, how your recital went, or ANYTHING else going on in your life!

I'll be posting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and you never know what you may find. One day could be a great craft, then I may send out a funny memory from this summer, and stay tuned because you never know when a competition will start! Do I hear the competition cheer starting all over America right now? You better believe it's going on in my head!

For today's post I would love to hear what your favorite part of Kamp was this year!
Did you love the zipline?
Thanks to the Inside Kanakuk blog for this great picture!

Or maybe learning how to canoe?

Or possibly it was a party?! I always love the party barn! Here's a picture of me swinging. So fun!

I'll tell you my favorite moment was the Olympic Party! Remember how you got breakfast in bed? Then you got to run around as a country and complete all of the great competitions (there goes that competition cheer in my head again)! I think my favorite station was the sunbathing station! What can I say? I'm a pool girl!

Also for some extra fun... Can anyone tell me who this staff girl is? This is a picture of when she was a kamper many, many moons ago! I'll give you a hint, she was the great girl who set up your Klinics!

We miss you so much and hope to hear from you! I will see you Wednesday!
