I'm Famous!!

Hey there Kanakomo Ladies
How are you this week? I had a very interesting day today... I felt famous! But not really haha. I go to the Kanakuk Institute and it would not be possible without the help of all the donors! Today I signed over 100 cards thanking them for their donations!

It is good, especially during the season of Christmas, to think about what you are thankful for! What has God given you that you should be thankful for? Here is my short list:

1. My family
2. My friends
3. Kanakuk
4. Being an American
5. Having a Savior who loves me personally!
6. YOU GIRLS!!!!

That is just a short list, there are hundreds of things I am thankful for! I encourage you girls to make a list for yourself!

Love you!

Goodness!

Happy Wednesday Ladies!

How are you? Last week I did not do our fruit of the week because of Thanksgiving but have no fear... it is back this week! Do you girls remember what fruit we are doing this week? Let's look at the verse:

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

We have done love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness so now it is time to study goodness! What does it mean to be good? Do you think it means to behave? Or to do well on tests? Or to do a good job? Well guess what?! God tells us exactly what it is to be good in the Bible!

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8

According to this God wants us to be good by doing justice, loving kindness, and walking with Him! So what does it mean to do justice? It means to do the right thing! God wants us to strive to do right! We talked about kindness two weeks ago so your girls are experts at that! Lastly, God wants us to walk with Him. He knows when our hearts are His. When we are truly following God we will start to look more and more like Him. Do you know what that means? It means we will do the right thing, love people, and be kind to people more often because that is how He is! Pretty cool how God ties all that together isn't it?!

Let's all work on our goodness! I want to challenge you girls this week to try to do the right things this week. Like when your parents ask you to do something do it the first time! Keep up being kind to people, I know you are awesome at this already! Always strive to be walking with God and one of the best ways to do that is to read His word, the Bible!

I miss you all sooooooo much!

What a Game!

Hey There Girls!

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you fall into a turkey coma? I think I did for a few hours!

Here's my dad and I at the game!
This weekend I got the opportunity to go to an OU football game with my dad! It was really fun to get to spend time with him while watching a team we both love. This was not just any random OU game... this was Bedlam! The instate rivalry game against OSU. I have to admit going into the game I really thought we were going to lose. OU hadn't played well the past couple of weeks while OSU had been tearing teams to pieces! Sure enough they came out to a quick lead and were ahead the whole game. They were playing great! I was sitting in my seat thinking "Oh man the game I get to watch is one they are going to lose" (not the best way to be thinking I know)! OU kept fighting though. They would come back and tie the game up but then OSU would take the lead again but then OU would manage to tie it again. It came down to overtime. OSU was able to score a field goal and OU managed to squeeze in a touchdown for the win! The crowd went absolutely nuts! You would have thought we had just won the National Championship! It was the only time OU had a lead the whole game but man what a great time to have the lead! This was one of the best Bedlams I have ever seen (I have seen quite a few)! Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field!

That night was also senior night for the team. It was the last time the seniors were going to play on their home field in front of their home crowd. It was a really great way for them to go out! Our quarterback Landry Jones was interviewed at the end of the game and I loved what he said. All of these reporters were trying to give him praise for playing a fantastic game and leading the team so well for four years. Instead of accepting all of it, Landry turned it all to God and was praising Him. At the end of the interview Landry shared the Gospel with the entire Sooner Nation making sure that he used the most of the opportunities God gave him. It really got me thinking if I was bold enough to do that. He just got up on stage and shared Christ with THOUSANDS of people! It was very inspiring! I hope that if I was presented with chance to do that I would! Is there somebody in your life you want to share Christ with? I bet there is! Pray to God for the words to speak and He will give them to you!

Miss you girls!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Kanakomo Ladies!!

I know it's only Wednesday and Thanksgiving is actually tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure I got to tell you all how thankful I am for you! You girls are the greatest and I love getting to spend my summers with you! Thanks for being awesome!

This is my mom's side of the family.
This is my favorite holiday! My family makes a pretty big deal out of it. We always travel to my grandparents farm and we hike down into a canyon. Then when we come back up there is always a ton of food and football! It is a blast! Some years we have a BIG family reunion! We get up to around seventy people... it is crazy! This year is a smaller gathering but I still love it.

This is my dad's side of the family.
One reason I love Thanksgiving so much is that it is a day set out for you to remember all of the blessings the Lord has given you. I think our world can be go go GO all the time that we forget to stop and see the great things in our life like our family, friends, and experiences! I encourage you to make a list of 5 things you are thankful for. If you want, you can post them on here!

What are your Thanksgiving traditions? Do you eat turkey or ham or both? Do you play a game of touch football with your family? I would love to hear about your traditions!

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Love you girls!

Thanksgiving Time!!

Hey K1 Girls!

Sorry for the belated post! I drove home for Thanksgiving break and it has thrown off my schedule, but don't worry I have a fun post for today!

This is my FAVORITE time of the year! I love Thanksgiving! My family always gets together with the grandparents and my aunt, uncle, and cousin and we feast and watch football. Some years the WHOLE family comes together and we end up with 60+ people! We go out to my grandparents farm and we hike down into a canyon! It is so fun! I love it!

I thought that today I would give you a fun Thanksgiving recipe you might enjoy making with your family.

I found this recipe for Thanksgiving Leaf cookies on Pinterest! I think it looks super fun! Grab your dad, mom, brother, sister, grandparents, ANYBODY and have some fun!

I hope you girls have an awesome Thanksgiving!

Love ya!

Kindness

Happy Wednesday Kanakomo Ladies!

How has your week been so far? Mine has been great! We have had a fantastic speaker here at the Kanakuk Institute this week. His name is Matt Chandler. He is a pastor at the Village Church down in Texas. I have been learning a lot!

It is time for our next fruit of the Spirit! Let’s review the verse!

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

We have made it through love, joy, peace, and patience so next up on the docket is kindness! Kindness can be so fun to do! When you are kind to people it brightens their day. You can help somebody turn their day around from being bad to good. That is awesome! It does not have to be something huge… your level of kindness is not measured by how much it costs you. For instance, a sweet word could mean more to somebody than buying them the newest Kari Jobe CD. It is completely about the heart!

Sometimes, especially as girls, it can be really hard to be kind. We have a hard time controlling our words and how we treat each other. That being said, God calls us to be kind to each other! Check out this verse:

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:23

We are supposed to be kind to each other because God was so incredibly kind to us! He gave us the ultimate gift! Everlasting life!

Have you ever found it is easier to be kind to somebody who is kind to you? I sure have! When somebody is mean to me my first reaction is to be mean right back at them. This is not what we should do! We have to continue loving everybody! Why? Because God shows His kindness to everybody! Thank you Lord! None of us deserve His kindness. We have all sinned; we have all been unkind to Him. But He proves his mercy and grace and still shows us kindness. We should follow suit! Growing up my mom would always tell me the same thing when I was upset with how somebody was acting towards me. She would ask me “Logan, whose behavior can you control?” Then she would stare me down until I reluctantly replied with “My own.” While it would drive me nuts when she told me that as a kid (and still today), she was right! We all have the responsibility to control our own behavior. We should always show kindness to everybody just like Jesus does!

Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

What are some ways you have shown kindness in the past? Or what can you do in the future to be kind to those around you? I’d love to hear!

Love you girls!

Veteran's Day

Hey There Kanakomo Ladies!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? Did you make a fort with your family? It turned out to be a perfect weekend to do that in Branson. We had a cold front this weekend and it got pretty chilly!

Yesterday at church we had a great guest speaker. He was a chaplain in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. The chaplain is the man or woman who is like the pastor for the military. They go to the battlefields to bring God's news to the men who protect us.  He was an amazing speaker! I loved hearing his stories and about the faith he has in God. I have always appreciated our military and what they do for us but this man gave me a new perspective for them. These men give up everything to protect us.

While Veteran's Day was yesterday, I still wanted to honor them today on the blog. Do you know any veterans? Maybe your parents or grandparents are veterans? Both of my grandpas are veterans. I am so proud for them to be in my family!

Regardless if it is Veteran's Day or not, I encourage you to always thank those that serve in our military to protect us! They give up a lot that we will never realize. Let them know we appreciate them!

Love you girls!

Wait... Hold on a Second... Have Some PATIENCE!

What's up Kanakomo Ladies!

Guess what day it is... WORD Wednesday! Do you remember our verse we have been talking about the past few weeks?

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

Since we have already done love, joy, and peace, we are doing patience today! I don't know about you girls but sometimes I have a really hard time being patient. If I want a cookie, I don't want to wait until after dinner to eat it! Who has a hard time waiting to see what you got for your birthday or Christmas? It drives me nuts to see the presents under the tree but I'm not allowed to look at them. Absolutely CRAZY!!

What is the importance of being patient? I mean what does it really matter if we wait for something or not?? It matters because God's plan is ALWAYS better than ours! I don't mean it's better part of the time and we might be right a few times here and there... I mean He is NEVER wrong!

Knowing that God's timing is ALWAYS right, we should have an easier time being patient! Hebrews 6:12 says

"We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised."

The Lord has a wonderful plan for your life. You just need to trust in Him and wait for His plans to unfold.

Love you girls!!

Fort Building

Hello Girls!

Sometimes when it starts to get cold outside I forget how to entertain myself when I am stuck inside. I can't do any of my favorite things! No rock climbing, hiking, or the big oh no... HAMMOCKING (key in on the tears forming in my eyes right now). That is when I think back to the days of indoor fort building with my sister! Those first few days of crazy cold weather we would gather all the blankets in the house and make a pretty sweet fort.
We would use chairs, couches, lazy boys... basically all the house furniture to stabilize it. There would be secret rooms and chambers only we would know about. Nobody could come into the fort without the password. It was AWESOME! Once the fort was made we would just hang out in there! It was so fun to have our own area that was just for us. We would read in there, sometimes we would watch movies or play boardgames. This could be something you do with your family. You of course HAD to have the password to get in! Sometimes we would have our fort for a whole weekend! Sometimes it only lasted a day. But one thing I could always count on, when we got to make a fort, it was a good time! So talk to your parents and see if they would want to build one with you! All it takes are some blankets and some creativity and you just made your own little world!

Have fun!

Peace

Happy Friday Ladies!

I'm sorry I did not get this out on Wednesday! It has been a little bit crazy here on the island. So I am going to shake things up a little bit. Instead of having a weekend post today I am going to keep going on the fruit of the spirit! Plus it is one of my favorites so I don't want to wait until next week to do it. Lets go over the verse again...

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23

We have already talked about love and joy, so now we are on peace. What do you think of when you think about peace? I think about a calming feeling. If you know me well you might know that one of my favorite places to be is in my hammock outside in God's beautiful creation. When I am there I feel God's peace. I feel completely safe and secure in Christ and His promises. God tells us that he has a plan for our lives.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

With a promise like that... how can you not be at peace? I know that life can be really hard sometimes. Some of you might have stuff going on at home, maybe you are having a hard time at school or you are not getting along with a friend, but you should always know that God LOVES you. He promises us that He has a GOOD plan for us! I am going to let you in on a little secret... God NEVER goes back on a promise. If says He says He is going to do something... He means it!

I want you all to think about how God has given peace to you. I find peace in His Word, where do you find it?

I miss you girls and love ya!

Tree House Ice Cream Recipe!

How was your weekend girls??

I hope you all had a great time! Did anybody carve a pumpkin? If you did, you should send me a picture  I will post it on the blog!

How many of you girls got to spend a night in the tree house this summer?! I have a confession for you... I have never gotten the opportunity! But I know that if you do, you get to have some pretty great ice cream! Depending on when you were here this summer, either Ross or Josh made some of the best ice cream I bet you have ever had!

I was lucky and Ross taught me how to make it so today, yes today, I am going to teach you girls! There are a few things you are going to need to make this work...

An ice cream maker (there are all sorts but I think the old fashion ones make the best batches!)

5 Cups of whipping cream
4 Cups of milk
3 Cups of Half n Half
1 drinking cup of sugar (we use the cups your drink from at kamp for this)
2 splashes of vanilla
Dash of salt
Rock Salt

In the metal cylinder pour in the whipping cream, milk, and half n half. Then pour in the sugar, vanilla and a little bit of salt (key phrase: little bit). Put the cylinder in the wooden bucket and fill up the bucket with a layer of ice followed by a layer of rock salt. Continue this pattern until the bucket is full to the brim with ice. ***IMPORTANT*** Be generous with your rock salt!! If you skimp on it your ice cream won't be creamy!!

Turn on the machine or start cranking (depending on what type of machine you have) for 10-15 minutes. Make sure to keep adding ice and rock salt! During this time you should start cutting up or smashing your flavor ingredients! For this example I'll tell you my favorite... MINT OREO! SO GOOD!!!!! I mash up a package of mint oreos and add in a few teaspoons of mint extract. But you can really do anything! You can add in any type of candy or fruit. I have even seen people put cereal in their ice cream! Be creative!

Once you add in your toppings to the cylinder go ahead and mix them for about 10-15 more minutes. You want to watch the ice level and add more ice and rock salt as it goes. After about 20-25 total minutes of being mixed start checking to see if it is ready or not. It will look nice and creamy when it is!

You can put it in a bowl and freeze it or eat it right away! Either way... you have just made yourself some awesome ice cream!!!

Enjoy!

Pumpkin Carving

Hey girls!

I don't know about where you live, but here in Branson the cold weather has finally rolled in! We went from being unseasonably warm to cold and rainy real quick. Like I woke up to a lovely sunny, warm day and as I am writing this now it is cold and raining. Go figure!

Have you thought about what you are going to do this weekend? Well if you are in the Kansas City area you should definitely go to the Fall Bash at the Kansas City K-Life house! It is going to be full of great K1 guys and gals and there will be a ton of fun games! Remember it is on Saturday from 3-6 pm!

What about everybody else? One of my favorite October activities is to carve pumpkins! I love to drive out to the local pumpkin patch and pick out a great pumpkin and then make fun faces with them. I have a bit of a weird method of picking the "perfect" pumpkin. Some people look for the really tall pumpkins while others look for that perfect round pumpkin.

Me, I look for the pumpkin with the weird shape and color. Also, the more warts the better! I think they have more character. Plus they are so unique! Check out the guy! He has got some pretty big lumps!

Once you have you pumpkin go ahead and draw on your design. You can click here for a few ideas! When the design is ready to go, grab an adult to help you with the cutting. You will have to cut a hole on the top of the pumpkin and pull out all of the inside stuff. After the inside is nice and clean you can start cutting the design out! Stick a candle inside of it and EUREKA! you have a jack-o-lantern!

It is a really fun thing you can do with your whole family and with friends!

Have a great weekend!

JOY!!

Happy Wednesday Kanakomo!

Well do you remember what we talk about on Wednesdays? The Word! Last week we talked about the first fruit of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, LOVE. Do you remember the verse?

"And the fruits of the Spirit are
love
             joy
                    peace
                              patience
                                             kindness
                                                                 goodness
                                                                                   faithfulness
                                                                                                           gentleness
                                                                                                                             self-control
against such things there is no law."

Today we are going to talk about the second, JOY!

Joy is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible! I think that means God wants to make sure we know about it!

A joyful heart is good medicine,
But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22

These things I have spoken to you
so that My joy may be in you,
and that your joy may be made full.
John 15:11

Therefore you too have grief now;
but I will see you again, and your
heart will rejoice, and no one
will take your joy away from you.
John 16:22

Joy is not the same thing as happy. You might be happy when you get a good grade on a test or win a soccer game, but joy comes from the Lord! God calls us to always be joyful!

"Rejoice always"
1st Thessalonians 5:16

Joy comes hand in hand with Jesus, because He is joy! The more you follow Jesus, the more joy you will be filled with! You might still have some hard times but your joy from the Lord will never leave you!

And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 13:52

What are some joys in your life? I would love to hear about them!
Have a good rest of your week!

Hello Sweet Komos!

How was your weekend? Did you get to spend anytime outside? I sure hope so! It was a gorgeous weekend here in Branson. The sun was shining and there was a lovely breeze. It was 72 degrees of perfection! I didn't get to go hiking as I had hoped but I did get to set up my hammock down by Lake Taneycomo and read my Bible.
I'm not going to lie... it was pretty great!

You know how I told you all a couple of weeks ago that I love OU football?

Well another team I absolutely love is the Oklahoma City Thunder! And their season is kicking off! I grew up just 15 minutes North of the city so I have always had a soft spot in my heart for OKC. However, a professional team of any capacity is a very new thing for us! A lot of you are from states that have plenty of pro teams like Kansas and Texas but if you are from a state like Oklahoma like I am, then you may understand why finally having a team to root for is such a BIG deal! After college football season is over, the state changes from being a split mess of red (OU's color) and orange (OSU's) color to a unified rolling sea of blue (Thunder's color)! It is a really neat thing that everybody is all on the same side for something!

Naturally, when I think of basketball I have to think about the fun March Madness tournament we do at Kamp! You girls really show your great skills out there on the court! You always play hard and you always have such a great attitude!

Here are the videos from this summer's tournaments.

If you were at Kamp the first two weeks click here!

If you were at Kamp the first month click here!

If you were at Kamp the second month click here!

Enjoy the clips!

Miss you girls!

Enjoying God's Creation!

Hey there Kanakomo Ladies!
It's FRIDAY!! I love Fridays! Friday means you get two and a half days to do something different than what you do during the week. This could be hanging out with friends and family, maybe going to see a movie, or if you are really lucky... hanging outside! I love being in God's creation and enjoying every bit of it! I especially love it during this time of the year. The leafs here in Branson are in middle of changing colors... it is beautiful!

Look how pretty those trees are! Perhaps I will will do the Branson Zipline this weekend!

I checked out the forecast for this weekend and I could not believe what I saw. I thought I had flashed back to Kamp and the Morning Show was playing because the forecast showed that it is suppose to be sunny, 72 degrees with a slight breeze! Misty finally got it right! I am hoping to go hiking tomorrow so I can use up this good weather while it's here! You girls should take advantage of your warm weekends too! Talk to your parents about going somewhere together! Bust out the bicycles and go on a family bike ride! Enjoy the weather while you can!

Speaking of what to do on weekends... Calling all KANSAS CITY K1 Kampers! On Saturday, October 27th from 3-6pm there is going to be a reunion at the Kansas City K-Life House! That is NEXT weekend!!! We are going to be singing songs, playing games, and doing all sorts of stuff! I am going to be there and there will be some staff members there too! It is going to be a blast so I would love to see you all there!

I miss you girls!!
